Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta Announces First Quarter 2014 Operating Highlights

ATLANTA, April 29, 2014 — Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (the Bank) today released unaudited financial highlights for the quarter ended March 31, 2014. All numbers reported below for the first quarter of 2014 are approximate until the Bank announces unaudited financial results in its Form 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which is expected to be filed on or about May 9, 2014.

The Bank reported net income of $77 million for the first quarter of 2014, an increase of $6 million from net income of $71 million for the first quarter of 2013. As of March 31, 2014, the Bank had total assets of $119.5 billion, a decrease of $2.8 billion, or 2.33 percent, from December 31, 2013. The Bank's advances were $84.2 billion as of March 31, 2014, a decrease of $5.4 billion from December 31, 2013.

The Bank's retained earnings balance was $1.7 billion as of March 31, 2014, an increase of $33 million, or 2.00 percent, from December 31, 2013. Capital stock declined from $4.9 billion as of December 31, 2013, to $4.4 billion as of March 31, 2014.

The Bank's first quarter 2014 performance resulted in a return on equity (ROE) of 4.75 percent as compared to 4.65 percent for the first quarter of 2013. The ROE spread to average three-month LIBOR increased to 451 basis points for the first quarter of 2014, compared to 436 basis points for the first quarter of 2013. The Bank continues to meet its regulatory capital requirements.
