Item 8.01 Other Events

 

On December 20, 2013, First Real Estate Investment Trust of New Jersey (the “Trust”) closed on the sale of its South Brunswick, New Jersey property for a purchase price of $11,000,000. The Trust recognized a capital gain of approximately $8.7 million on the transaction, net of sales fees and commissions. The decision to sell this property was based on the desire of the Board of Trustees to re-deploy the net proceeds arising from the sale to real estate assets in other areas of the Trust’s operations.

 

On December 17, 2013, the Trust repurchased 20,400 shares of beneficial interest of the Trust in a privately-negotiated transaction with an unaffiliated party for an aggregate purchase price of $357,000, or $17.50 per share. This repurchase was authorized by the Board of Trustees.
