Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta Announces First Quarter 2011 Operating Highlights

 

ATLANTA, April 28, 2011 - Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (the Bank) today released unaudited financial highlights for the quarter ended March 31, 2011. The Bank will announce full unaudited financial results in its Form 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which is expected to be filed on or about May 12, 2011.

The Bank reported net income of approximately $51 million for the first quarter 2011, an increase of approximately $3 million from net income of approximately $48 million for first quarter 2010. As of March 31, 2011, the Bank had total assets of approximately $123.6 billion, a decrease of $8.2 billion, or 6.20 percent, from Dec. 31, 2010.

The Bank's retained earnings balance was approximately $1.2 billion as of March 31, 2011, an increase of approximately $36 million, or 3.21 percent, from Dec. 31, 2010. Capital stock increased from approximately $7.2 billion at Dec. 31, 2010 to approximately $7.3 billion at March 31, 2011.

The Bank's first quarter 2011 performance resulted in an annualized return on equity (ROE) of 2.56 percent as compared to 2.36 percent for first quarter 2010. The ROE spread to average three-month LIBOR increased to 2.25 percent for the first quarter 2011 compared to 2.10 percent for the first quarter 2010.

"As the Bank continues to mitigate the impact of valuation changes in our mortgage backed security portfolio, we remain focused on providing a competitive return to shareholders through payment of dividends and the repurchasing of excess capital stock," said President and CEO Wesley McMullan.
