HEALTH NET REPURCHASES 1.2 MILLION SHARES

IN JANUARY 2011 FOR $34.3 MILLION

LOS ANGELES, February 17, 2011 – Health Net, Inc. (NYSE:HNT) today announced that it repurchased 1.2 million shares of its common stock for $34.3 million in January 2011 under its existing $300 million stock repurchase program. As of January 31, 2011, approximately $115.5 million remained available for repurchase under this program.

Subject to approval of Health Net’s board of directors, Health Net may repurchase its common stock under its stock repurchase program from time to time in privately negotiated transactions, through accelerated share repurchase programs or open market transactions, including pursuant to a trading plan in accordance with Rules 10b5-1 and 10b-18 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, as amended, or by any combination of such methods. The timing of any repurchases and the actual number of shares repurchased will depend on a variety of factors, including the stock price, corporate and regulatory requirements, restrictions under the company’s debt obligations, and other market and economic conditions. The stock repurchase program may be suspended or discontinued at any time. The company reports on its repurchase activity in its quarterly financial disclosures.
