Explanatory Note
This Amendment No. 1 on Form 8-K/A (this “Form 8-K/A”) is an amendment to the Current Report on Form 8-K of Newfield Exploration Company, dated May 3, 2016 (the “Original Form 8-K”). This Form 8-K/A is being furnished to notify investors of a correction in Exhibit 99.2 of the Original Form 8-K.

On May 5, 2016 Newfield disclosed the following production data correction to slide seven in the May 3, 2016 @NFX publication:

The correction reflects the 30, 60 and 90-day rates as average rates and not as 30-day increments. The May 3, 2016 @NFX publication has also been reposted and redated with the corrected information. A copy of the corrected slide seven is furnished herewith as Exhibit 99.1.
