On January 30, 2018, EMC Insurance Group Inc. (the "Company") issued a press release announcing that its parent company, Employers Mutual Casualty Company (Employers Mutual), communicated to its employees certain statutory-basis consolidated financial information for the year ended December 31, 2017 in conjunction with a company-wide disclosure of Employers Mutual's 2017 contingent salary plan. The statutory-basis consolidated financial information is not prepared on the basis of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles, and reflects the results of all insurance company subsidiaries and affiliates of Employers Mutual, including the subsidiaries of the Company.
To avoid any potential confusion resulting from this announcement, the Company disclosed similar 2017 statutory-basis financial information on both a consolidated basis and by segment.
