Section 5 — Corporate Governance and Management
Item 5.02 Departure of Directors or Certain Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Certain Officers; Compensatory Arrangements of Certain Officers.
(b) On April 18, 2013, John P. Rijos, Co-President and Chief Operating Officer of Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (the "Company"), informed the Company that he will retire, effective June 15, 2013, after many years of service with the Company and its predecessors. Mr. Rijos, who is a graduate of Cornell University and currently serves as a member of the Cornell University Council, began his career in the hospitality industry and had over 25 years of experience in the acquisition, development and operation of hotels and resorts before joining a predecessor of the Company in 2000.
Until the effective date of his retirement, Mr. Rijos will continue to serve in his current capacity with the Company and will assist in the orderly transition of his marketing, branding and operations responsibilities.
