Item 7.01 Regulation FD Disclosure
On November 6, 2012, our wholly-owned subsidiary, Homeowners Choice Property & Casualty Insurance Company, Inc., assumed 59,688 homeowners’ policies from Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, Florida’s state-operated insurance company.
The policies are assumable under the state’s “take-out” program, designed to reduce the state’s risk exposure by encouraging private insurance companies to assume policies from Citizens. Under the take-out rules, affected policyholders are entitled to opt out after the assumption and remain with Citizens. A news release announcing this assumption is attached as Exhibit 99.1 to this form 8-K.
