Item 8.01.    Other Events
 
Assurant, Inc. (the "Company") has estimated the reportable catastrophe losses incurred for the months of July, August and September 2011 to be in the range of $80 million to $85 million, pre-tax and net of reinsurance. Of this amount, $65 million to $70 million is related to Hurricane Irene. Reportable loss events for the third quarter included Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee and the wildfires in Texas. The principal causes of loss for these events were wind and water damage, followed by flood.

The estimate of reportable catastrophe losses includes only individual catastrophic events that generated losses to the Company in excess of $5 million, pre-tax and net of reinsurance. Actual reportable catastrophe losses for the quarter will be reported in the third quarter 2011 earnings release scheduled for October 26, 2011 after 4:00 p.m. ET.
