TRANSATLANTIC HOLDINGS, INC. ANNOUNCES RECORD DATE FOR SPECIAL MEETING OF
STOCKHOLDERS AND EARLY TERMINATION OF HART-SCOTT-RODINO ACT WAITING
PERIOD
     New York, N.Y., July 13, 2011 — Transatlantic Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: TRH) today announced it has established a record date of July 22, 2011 for a special meeting of its stockholders to consider and vote on a proposal to adopt the previously announced agreement and plan of merger, dated as of June 12, 2011, by and among Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, AG (NYSE: AWH), GO Sub, LLC and Transatlantic, and certain related matters. Pursuant to the merger agreement and subject to its terms and conditions, stockholders of Transatlantic will receive 0.88 Allied World shares for each share of Transatlantic common stock held and cash in lieu of any fractional shares of Allied World.
     Transatlantic stockholders of record at the close of business on Friday, July 22, 2011 will be entitled to receive the notice of, and to vote at, the special meeting. The meeting date for the special meeting has not yet been determined.
     Transatlantic also announced today the early termination of the antitrust waiting period under Hart-Scott-Rodino in connection with the proposed merger.
