Item 8.01. Other Events.
On May 24, 2011, Corning Natural Gas Corporation (the "Company") filed with the New York Public Service Commission (NYSPSC) for a more than $4 million rate increase that would be phased in over three years.
The Company's proposed rate increase request is primarily the result of investments to continue its pipeline safety and reliability improvement program. The Company is also investing in a direct connection to local storage (mandated by the NYSPSC) in an effort to improve system reliability and reduce the cost of gas.
The Company issued a press release regarding the rate case on May 24, 2011. The press release is attached as Exhibit 99.1.
