Angiotech Announces Acceptance of Plan of Compromise or Arrangement for Presentation

at a Meeting of Affected Creditors by the Supreme Court of British Columbia

Angiotech Authorized to Hold a Meeting of Affected Creditors

Vancouver, BC, February 18, 2011 – Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (TSX: ANP) (“Angiotech” or the “Company”) today announced that the Supreme Court of British Columbia (the “Court”) has accepted for filing a plan of compromise or arrangement (the “Plan”), with terms and conditions materially consistent with Angiotech’s previously announced recapitalization transaction, relating to Angiotech and certain of its subsidiaries (collectively, the “Angiotech Entities”) pursuant to the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (Canada) (the “CCAA”).

The Court has granted an order authorizing the holding of a meeting of the affected creditors of the Angiotech Entities (the “Affected Creditors”) on April 4, 2011. The purpose of the meeting is for the Affected Creditors to consider and vote on the Plan. If the Plan is approved by the required majority of Affected Creditors, the Angiotech Entities intend to bring a further motion on or about April 6, 2011 seeking a sanctioning of the Plan by the Court.

The Court also granted an order establishing a procedure for the adjudication, resolution and determination of claims of Affected Creditors for voting and distribution purposes under the Plan and fixing a claims bar date of March 17, 2011.

More information about the Angiotech Entities’ restructuring process can be found at www.angiotech.com and on the website of Alvarez & Marsal Canada Inc., the monitor of the Angiotech Entities, at http://www.alvarezandmarsal.com/angiotech.
